Day 4: update

I have read through ALL sections of my e-course already...!  I was trying to take it bit by bit, but I just could NOT stop reading!  I can't wait to put of it into action so my house will look a little more...interesting.

I did set up a new recycling system yesterday that will hopefully stick this time!  And today I finally hung up all the frames i've been collecting in a little collage!  Its so beautiful!  I hope to post some pictures up soon of all my endeavors.

I really feel like I'm getting a lot done lately.  This is starting off to be a good 22nd year!

I started an e-course!

I was browsing the circuit of blogs that I normally read, and as usual discovered a few new ones.  The one I really enjoyed that I came across today was Smile and Wave.  After browsing around her site for a while I found out that she has written a few e-courses.  The one that really caught my eye was called "Style your space" which is a short course that will hopefully help me turn my house into more of a home.  I can't wait to dive into this!  I just decided to try this on a whim and I have never taken an e-course so we will see how it goes :)

The beginnings of a grown up wardrobe

Like I mentioned in my first post, I plan on purchasing one staple every month to get started on my adult/professional wardrobe.  It's time I start dressing my age!  These are what I hope to be my future purchases:

August: a pair of navy blue TOMS - purchased yesterday as a birthday present to myself!
September: Dark wash trouser cut jeans - I would like to find a pair that not only fit, but will last me a long time!
October: This pair of booties from Blowfish in black leather - I have never had a stylish pair of boots!
November: A great white button down shirt - A classy staple for women
December: A cardigan (maybe cashmere) in a color like black, gray, or red - something that goes with almost everything
January: A comfortable pair of black dressy heels - I'm not a "high heel" person, they're usually so uncomfortable but I would like to find a nice pair that I can actually walk in
February: Black dress pants - A well-cut pair, in a nice material
March: A fitted jacket - maybe leather?  or like a blazer...something fabulous
April: A nice pair of flats - maybe with the pointy toes?
May: A brown leather belt to add at the waist of my favorite sun dress or over a cardigan/skirt combo?
June: Pencil or A-line skirt - something in a rich material
July: A good quality pair of sunglasses - basically anything is an upgrade from my $3 Wal-Mart pair!

Aside from my staples, I would like to try and re-work a few pieces from my current wardrobe to make them work better for me.  I have a grey pair of trousers that need to be hemmed, because I am very short,  a jean jacket that needs a little re-shaping, and  a sundress that I can make a little more flattering.

As soon as I get my TOMS in the mail I hope to post up pictures!  I want to share my wardrobe journey!

Day 1: "To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are"

The date is August 28, 2011.  I turned 22 years old today!  Leading up to it, I was absolutely terrified of reaching this milestone.  22 seems so adult.  I don't even know what I want to do with my life!  I can't even follow through with the goals that I set for myself.  The quote above was sent to my phone via Twitter a la Jason Mraz a few weeks ago.  It made me realize that I really need to start DOING, instead of just planning...

So today is going to be the beginning.  A new way of living.  I have spent the majority of my day napping and laying on the couch...and in all this down time I have realized a few things I need to start doing right away:
  1. I need to figure out what I want to do with my life...and soon!  They make you choose your major when you're just barely 18.  This is the decision that is going to effect your WHOLE life.  How are we supposed to decide that right out of high school???  I think I will be able to make a more informed decision at the ripe age of 22.  I'm going to start a list and write down one possible future career everday for a week, starting tomorrow.
  2. I seriously need to crack down on my exercise/weight loss/health kick regimen.  Also starting tomorrow I will begin a six-week program.  I will go to the gym at least four times a week, try and get outside at least once a week, eat healthier, cut out soda and alcohol, aim for 64 oz of water, and eat less sweets.  I'm 22 for crying out loud, I need to get in shape!  I'm wasting away in this slightly overweight body...imagine how much more I could enjoy my life if I was healthy!
  3. I am going to start building a great wardrobe, one piece at a time.  And since quality is more important than quantity, I will "splurge" on one piece a month.  I use the word splurge loosely because $50 is a splurge for me!  As I get older I realize I need a more sophisticated wardrobe.  For the month of August I bought a pair of Toms, a comfortable pair of casual shoes.  For September I hope to get a great new pair of dark trouser cut jeans, and October is going to bring a new pair of boots...I'm thinking a pair of Blowfish ones that I have been swooning over for years!

This is a good start to getting my 22-year-old self on track.  I would like to document my goals and progress to give myself some acountability!  This time its going to stick...keep your fingers crossed!

Hope everyone else is having a wonderful and relaxing day!
